Kent Blazy and the For Peace Band perform Friday, July 30 @ 6pm - $15 at the Douglas Corner Cafe to benefit www.radnorlake.org. | Home  | Contact  |
If I call Kent Blazy and go over there (to his house), the dogs'll be inside -- he spoils 'em all the time -- and we'll write on the back porch and we'll drink limeade like we did in '89. That's just him.

Cory Batten

It’s a long road from Tucson, AZ., to the streets of Music Row in Nashville, TN., but Cory Batten made that journey seem quick. As a songwriter, he scored cuts including Rounder Recording artist, Rhonda Vincent’s, “Is the Grass Any Bluer,” which was Nominated as 2003’s “Single of the Year” by the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association.) He co-wrote with Kent Blazy and Wendell Mobley, “If You Had Called Yesterday,” a song that was recorded by Universal Music Group Nashville, (Mercury Records,) artist, Julie Roberts on her, self-titled, Gold selling debut CD. Roberts also performed the song The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Brooks & Dunn dipped into Cory Batten’s song catalog, recording “Down By The River,” which he co-wrote with Dave Brainard and Tiffany Goss. And, BMG recording artist Blaine Larsen not only chose to record a Cory Batten written (co-written with Kent Blazy and Lane Turner) song, “I Don’t Know What She Said,” BMG also chose the song for Blaine’s first single off of his upcoming sophomore album; ”Rockin’ You Tonight;” quite an accomplishment for any songwriter. All of this was accomplished in just a few short years with a lot of hard work and determined spirit.

Only months after moving to Nashville, Cory Batten’s talent attracted the powerhouse executives with DreamWorks Publishing. He was signed to the company, but was prematurely dropped after only one year.

Cory Batten thought his career in Nashville might be over and moved back to his home in Tucson, Arizona… But just eight months later, he found himself with his truck packed and he was headed back to Nashville! Cory was given two warnings for speeding on his way back to Nashville. He says, “You gotta drive fast when you’re chasin' a dream.”

Within a month he was back on track with a second publishing contract with a new and aggressive firm, “I Want to Hold Your Songs Publishing, putting Cory Batten back into the industry full force. Under the guidance of publisher, Kent Blazy, he proved both his worth as a songwriter... and his strong determination to finish what he started. Batten had learned from his father, who nobly served in the Armed Forces as an Air Force Mechanic, quitting was not an option. Batten's mother, who was a personal trainer, taught him that persistence is the key to success.

But as a singer, songwriter, and musician, with the musical gift of a country ‘John Mayer,’ Cory Batten’s story only begins here. The demand for Cory Batten to perform his music live in popular Nashville night spots is immense. With musical influences ranging from Garth Brooks and George Strait to Aerosmith Cory’s live show blends blues, R&B and country to form his own kind of sound. “I like to gear my live show to be a “rockin’ edgy rollercoaster for the heart,” describes Batten; “With the tender emotional ballads for balance.”

A true Renaissance man, Cory Batten is a man of many talents. While in high school he played all sorts of sports, he was on a second place championship relay swimming team, he took up cycling in college and rode in the El Tour De Tucson, a 111 mile bike race, twice. After he graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Psychology, Cory Batten then made his way to Nashville to pursue his career in music; a career that is now well on its way.
